About Labradoodles

A LABRADOODLE is a crossbreed dog, originally developed about 30 years ago as an assistance dog suitable for people with allergies. They are a hybrid of primarily Labrador and Standard, Miniature or Toy Poodle. Other accepted foundation breeds are: Irish water spaniel, curly coat retriever, American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel. They have since been bred for many generations to gain a predictable body type and coat, and set the standard for future generations.  They may be bred multi-generation to multi-generation, or back crossed to a foundation breed when looking for certain coat or temperament traits.

As professional breeders, we carefully plan our program, with temperament, trainability and quality at the forefront.  We breed affectionate, lovable companions for any family, and calm, trainable assistance and support dogs. And, yes, once adult coats are established, they really are very low shedding.

TEMPERAMENT. Like their foundation breeds, our dogs are moderately active, very intelligent and friendly. By aiming to breed dogs suitable for assistance or support work, they tend to be calm and confident in themselves, and excellent indoor/outdoor dogs with a little training.

SIZE varies, depending on whether standard, miniature or toy poodles are in their ancestry. Our dogs are mainly standard or medium in size, whereas other breeders specialise in miniatures, up to 13 kgs. Please note that size estimates are just that - they are estimates of mature size based on the size of the parents. We cannot guarantee the adult weight or size of a puppy.

The size categories of labradoodles are: Miniature <13 kgs, Medium 13 - 20 kgs, Standard >20 kg.

Their LIFESPAN is about 12 - 15 years, which is quite long. There are several factors which influence lifespan. Generally smaller dogs live longer than large ones, and other things such as diet, exercise and genetics all play a part.

HEALTH is generally excellent, due to the hybrid visor, combined with rigorous genetic health testing. Our pups come with a written genetic health guarantee and written veterinary health check.

ODOUR. Labradoodles have very little doggy odour if they are multi-generation labradoodles, as they have a non - oily coat (from the poodle line). The soft coats will still pick up environmental smells though.
