Frankie arrived in Melbourne from Ciderfields at 9 weeks of age, off the cargo plane from Qld. He is now almost 39 months and what a time we have had. The two years after he arrived in Melbourne were almost total lockdown. I was working from home and limited in leaving the house. During the Melbourne lockdowns I trained Frankie with basic obedience, retrieve/fetch, and nose work. He gained his accreditation as a therapy dog in 2022. Frankie was a darling from day 1. Affectionate, intelligent and goofy. He loves to run fast and retrieve the ball until he drops, trick training and agility work. Frankie is a volunteer at Frankston Hospital. We do ward rounds in oncology, ICU, mental health and outpatients each week. He is loved and appreciated. “Wednesday mornings”with Frankie are looked forward to by patients and staff. He was made for this job. He would love to do this every day, the attention, the discipline, and the challenge of working with people. He loves the eye contact, connection and physical touch. So respectful of my other dog Molly who was 14 when Tilly arrived. They were best mates pretty soon and Tilly even had Molly playing. Tilly is like a sponge with her training. After acing puppy school, we are currently doing Level 3 training. She also gets one on one therapy dog training through WAAT dogs which keeps us on our toes. She is very spoilt and loved. At home she loves her toys and hogging my/her bed. Her favourite thing is playing out in the rain and then jumping on top of me soaking wet She definitely has a cheeky side, which I love, and is always stealing things. She has trained me to keep things out of her reach and I am training her to bring me her treasures. She loves going to school and seeing her friends. The office area is her domain and you will often find her out front greeting visitors or getting cuddles from a staff member on the floor. She loves a dress up and she went on school camp with the kids. From the very first day she completely switches when I put her lead on and she interacts with the children. She loves to visit the sick bay and makes sure everyone is ok. She has put smiles on the faces of many an upset child and she has regular visits from children who need her. I am constantly amazed at what a natural and intuitive dog she is. She has made a huge difference to our school both for children and staff. I thought you would appreciate some more updates on "Sunny"... Sunny has just over 3 acres around the house to roam about freely with his buddy Ruby the Rottweiler! They play endless chasey games followed by long naps to recover. Sunny also LOVES water! Anything with water in it he will try to get into... puddles, dams, birdbaths, horse water trough... he even stamps out his water bowls... so we have to fill up a few of them in different spots! The best thing about him though is that he LOVES cuddles! He would be happy being patted all day long... he follows me everywhere and sits under my feet any time that I am working at my desk. At the same time he is not anxious at all and is independent. For example, he is happy for me to leave the room (even in unfamiliar places) and come back to him in half an hour without crying for me or showing any signs of anxiety... he just occasionally keeps his eye on the door that I left from All in all, he's the perfect fit for our family ... my only regret is his beautiful cream colour which is covered in mud most days until he dries off in the afternoon! A chocolate one would have been better for the farm...ha ha ... I have to wash him before each work visit! She is a lovely pup with a beautiful nature. She has settled into our house extremely well and is just like you said she would be, very intuitive. As you know I wanted a pup for Zoe who has ASD and other issues and Elle has surpassed my expectations. She is gentle with Zoe, is really fast on the uptake with her basic obedience training thus far and has slept through the night from the first day we got her. Our vet has remarked how settled and stable she is even at 10 weeks, she said that she was a very steady pup. All health checks thus far have been perfect! Hi Sonia, apologies for my delayed response. The puppy cakes were just lean beef mince with grated broccoli and an egg to bind them, popped into cupcake moulds and baked in the oven for 15mins (make sure the meatball is no bigger than golfball size as the juice will overflow from the cupcake mould). Once cooked allow the mince juice to set or drain it off into the topping. The topping is mashed sweet potato with some food colouring to make it caramel colour (a bit of yellow and blue) piped on. The eyes are black marzipan and the tongue a little pink marshmallow - not usual puppy food but not enough to be troublesome ☺️. I’ll see if I can send you a video of Murph using his birthday gift…an automatic ball launcher . He is just over 4 months, he is over 10kg. He had his first groom trial to get used to the groomer. He is fully vaccinated , wormed and tick treated. He has spent lots of time at the dog park and beach this summer with our family. He took to sleeping outside with our other dog and was fully toilet trained by about 3 1/2 months. He is so gentle and placid. He spend a lot of time flopping around on the floor chilling out by our feet. He is not barking at all and is very patient if we are at the cage or in a shop, happy to lie down out side. I’m thoroughly enjoying him as our beagle was a lot more crazy when he was younger. He has a healthy appetite but not greedy, he isn’t shedding at all and has the most beautiful coat. Even the vet said we have struck gold with Jack she is completely smitten. She is the most joyful, personable, loving little girl, with a huge personality, and lots of energy and some hilarious behaviours. Balto, Jolly’s German Shepherd big brother, is also a very special 6yo in that he is very gentle and loving. But he had an accident a year ago and herniated two discs. Surgery and ongoing physiotherapy have returned his life to near normal, except that his rear end isn't very strong. He feels vulnerable and has now become very reactive to other dogs. He "reacted" to Jolly when she arrived, but within minutes they were checking each other out. Jolly was intimidated, but had her crate to retreat to, and the very next day they had their first tentative play together. She settled in quickly, and she takes no rubbish from him. He's 36kg, and occasionally he accidentally steps on her foot, but she lets him know in no uncertain way that he needs to get off. She’s very feisty, no longer intimidated by him. Watching them play is an endless source of fun for us. Balto knows instinctively that she's only a pup, and small, and needs care. Until Jolly came he was very depressed, knowing somehow he wasn't quite right, being unable to do all the things he once could. Having his little mate has turned his life around. Jolly learns very quickly. Sit/stay/come are almost instant now. Off lead walks (when possible) are no problem. She loves to explore, but never takes her eyes off us for long, and recall is brilliant. She socialises well with other dogs, and loves to play with any she comes across on the beach. Of course we're very careful about what dogs we allow her to approach. But the instant we call her, she comes. Fantastic. I think what we love most is her nature. The love she exudes is palpable, and she adores cuddles. We are dogs-on-furniture people, and she quickly learned that the top of the couch is the best place to be so she can see us and what's going on outside simultaneously. Then when we sit beside her she snuggles up, puts her head on our laps, or climbs on our shoulders and wraps herself around our necks. He is caring, cuddly, funny, very cheeky, always making us laugh, loves his pack, ball obsessed, social with other dogs and so much more. We absolutely love him. We have a wonderful groomer who happens to live across the road. She loves him and keeps him looking handsome as ever. For the occasional times he can’t be with us we have an amazing pet carer. It is really up to you to decide how often to shampoo your pup. We do ours about every two weeks. If your dog rolls in something unsavoury, or has a digging session in the garden, you may need to do him more frequently. There are lots of good shampoos on the market. We prefer an unscented, paragon free natural soap such as Castile soap (available from health food shops). They are too hot and a very high pitch which many dogs dont like. They are also really ineffective in comparison to a blast dryer, such as the one on the right. Picture is off the web - not one we have used, so please do your own research. The nozzle shown on the far right (thin and wide) is the one we would recommend. There is no need for a heating unit. These will separate the fibres in your dogs coat far better than brushing. They will also blow out sand after a trip to beach, or dry your dog in minutes after a bath. We have used the boarding in training, home training, and phone consultations and all have been very useful and given good results (where previous trainers have not). We have a very strong willed Keeshund puppy that was starting to show aggression (snapping) and struggling with toilet training. Since working with the team, all aggression has stopped and toileting is significantly improving. The team uses excellent evidence-based, positive training techniques which are really effective and kind to the animal. The support they provide is excellent. We are much more confident in managing puppy’s behaviour. They show genuine care for the dogs and I would encourage working with them for any canine concerns!
